5th Annual 5k Tractor Trot
The 2013 Tractor Trot will
take place on June 8, at 9:00am. The proceeds will be donated to Feed
‘Em Soup Community Project NFP. Feed ‘Em Soup is a non-profit organization whose
mission is “To empower our community by serving the highest quality food with
compassion and respect in a restaurant quality environment to anyone –
regardless of situation, background or ability to pay while strengthening our
community and nourishing hope”.
Feed ‘Em Soup was created in 2010 when a group of “kids” in their early 20’s realized a growing problem within the community. They noticed that many families were having difficultly feeding their children and were often faced with problems such and choosing between feeding their family and paying household bills. So, these” kids” began to brainstorm about this situation and looked for ways to help. The result was creating Feed ‘Em Soup and offering community events that foster companionship, nutritious home cooked meals, and music. Over the past few years Feed ‘Em Soup has grown to offering programs that benefit children and began offering a shuttle service for their guests.
In September of 2010, Feed Em Soup served their first meal at First Lutheran Church of Dekalb; by the end of the year they were serving meals to 150 guests at each dinner. While listening to their guest they realized the need to start a food pantry and a clothing closet. By spring 2011, the demand necessitated a move to a larger facility. With this newly acquired space Feed ‘Em Soup was able to not only serve more guests but they were also able to expand the services they offer. These new programs now include community meals (2-3 times per month), clothing closet, a shuttle service for meals, emergency food pantry, and children’s programs.
Today, Feed Em Soup provides meals to approximately 800 unique individuals that reside in Dekalb, Sycamore, Cortland, Malta and surrounding areas. They serve about 350 guests per meal and that number continues to grow. Feed ‘Em Soup is funded by the community and staffed by the community; therefore, they are the definition of a “Community Project”.
